A 16-year-old boy was gunned down during a confrontation in Wildomar, and authorities were working to identify a suspect Tuesday.
The fatal shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Corydon Road and Melinda Lane, less than a block from the Lake Elsinore Airstrip, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Richard Carroll said the teen, whose identity was not immediately released, was attacked for unknown reasons and then taken by unnamed parties to nearby Inland Valley Medical Center, where he died.
Deputies were notified that the victim was at the hospital, after which Central Homicide Unit detectives took over the investigation, Carroll said.
“Investigative leads are currently being worked on, and there is no threat to the public,” he said. “This incident appears to be isolated between the suspect(s) and the victim.”
The individual or individuals believed to be involved in the deadly shooting were not identified.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
