A debris fire propelled by strong Santa Ana winds threatened an east Nuevo home Monday until firefighters gained the upper hand, stopping it.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 11:20 a.m. in the area of Sun Way and Citrus Avenue, just west of Foothill Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

According to the agency, multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a large rubbish pile, adjacent to a single-story house and other structures.

Northeast winds blowing 20 to 30 mph were pushing the flames toward the structures until crews deployed a protective screen, containing the blaze about 11:40 a.m., according to reports from the scene.

There were initial reports of explosions at the property, but the noises may have been from aerosol cans or other household items detonating. It was unclear.

By 11:50 a.m., crews were mopping up, and engine crews were clearing the location.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
