Fire damaged five units of a townhome complex in Van Nuys Friday, but no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported at 3:13 p.m. in a garden-style building in the 7300 block of Lennox Avenue, near Sherman Way and Van Nuys boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews on the scene initially reported heavy fire emanating from one unit of the building, but flames ultimately spread “laterally” to three more units and into the building’s attic, Stewart said. Three units suffered fire damage, while the fourth suffered more damage due to water and smoke than fire, according to Stewart.

All occupants of the building were evacuated.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire, and no word on the amount of damage.

The fire displaced 11 adults and six children, with the Red Cross responding to assist them, Stewart said.
