A 37-year-old Anaheim man pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to 10 years in prison for a methamphetamine-fueled crash that killed a pedestrian in Buena Park.

Jason Douglas Rarey pleaded guilty to a felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. As part of the plea deal, a second-degree murder charge was dismissed. He was given credit for 80 days in jail.

Rarey killed 51-year-old San Sebastian Tec Tamayo of Buena Park on June 23, 2018. Rarey admitted he was driving high on methamphetamine and was going 62 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to court records.

Tamayo and his family were walking home from a gathering just before 10:30 p.m. that night crossing the street in a crosswalk at Western and Jackson Avenues when the victim was struck by Rarey’s car, which was southbound on Western, according to testimony in Rarey’s preliminary hearing. His wife was crossing the street with him at the time, police said.

Tamayo was pronounced dead at the scene.
