A 34-year-old man suspected of carrying a kilogram of cocaine in his car while driving through Moreno Valley was being held Friday on $30,000 bail.

Eduardo Antonio Loverabruno was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning Thursday on suspicion of possession of controlled substances for sale and transportation of illegal drugs.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s officials, about 5 p.m. Thursday, patrol deputies monitoring traffic in the area of Alessandro Boulevard and Moreno Beach Drive spotted Loverabruno’s sedan and noticed unspecified violations, prompting them to signal him to stop.

Loverabruno pulled the car into a gas station parking lot, got out and began walking away as the patrol unit pulled in behind him, authorities said.

“The deputies detained Loverabruno to investigate the violations and why he was trying to distance himself from the vehicle,” according to a sheriff’s department statement. “During a legal search of the vehicle, the deputies found their answer: Loverabruno was transporting approximately one kilogram of cocaine.”

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the drugs and his vehicle were seized.

There was no word on where Loverabruno may have been headed at the time of his arrest.

Background information on the suspect was unavailable.
