Authorities Wednesday sought the public’s help to find the hit-and-run motorist responsible for the death of a man who was killed while trying to cross a street in the south Los Angeles area on Easter Sunday.

Ricardo Isai Cordova-Mejia, 39, was injured at 4 a.m. April 9 at Hoover and 74th streets and died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Detectives planned a Thursday morning news conference at the LAPD South Traffic Division station to appeal for the public’s help in finding the hit-and-run motorist.

Cordova-Mejia had been crossing Hoover Street from east to west in an unmarked crosswalk on the day he died, police said.

“Just before getting to the other side, a silver-colored sedan, struck him causing fatal injuries,” police said in a statement.

“The vehicle carried the victim nearly a block to 75th Street where the victim came to rest,” police said. “The driver of the vehicle failed to render aid or comply with the law and fled the scene southbound (on) Hoover Street.”

A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve a fatal hit and run.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500 or 323-421-2577. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
