Two students were stabbed Monday near Los Angeles High School.

Details were sketchy, but the attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. near the school in the 4600 block of Olympic Boulevard, between West and Rimpau boulevards, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Unconfirmed reports from fire crews on the scene indicated the victims are boys, aged 14 and 16, who were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the victims were students.

One victim underwent surgery. The other is in stable condition, KNX reported authorities said

According to reports from the scene, police said they believe the suspects left the area in two vehicles. There’s no official motive behind the possible stabbing, although KNX reported a fight occurred, prompting the stabbing.

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho called the attack “another senseless stabbing in our community near Los Angeles High School.”

“Our thoughts go out to the two victims and their families,” he said. “All of our students deserve to go to school free of fear and full of hope. We must work together to continue to provide safe passages to and from school.

“Law enforcement is currently investigating this incident, and we are working with the school to ensure our campus remains safe. Counselors and mental health support will be provided to those who may need it in school tomorrow.”
