One person was taken to a hospital Wednesday after fumes from a chemical spill on a ship in San Pedro affected nearly 15 people.
Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of South Earle Street shortly after 8:05 p.m. to a report about a chemical spill affecting several ship workers, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Vapors from a ship offloading fuel caused some crew members to feel unwell, prompting an LAFD HazMat squad unit to investigate the area to determine if any hazards were present and if any actions were needed to mitigate them.
There were no reports of any chemicals spilling into surrendering waters or on the ground. LAFD crews were conducting a final test of the atmosphere surrounding the area impacted before clearing the scene.
The person taken to the hospital was listed in fair condition, according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
