More than 90 firefighters worked one hour and 35 minutes Monday morning to put out heavy flames that gutted a building in the residential portion of a two-story Westlake area building.

The fire was reported at 2:46 a.m. at 690 S. Park View St. on the second floor of a building that has commercial use below, said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart. They had the flames out at 4:21 a.m.

The firefighters began the fight on the offensive but had to take the fight outside with heavy flames through the roof, Stewart said.

Flames spread to an attached building and an adjacent four-story apartment building which firefighters evacuated, Stewart said.

The extent of damage to those two buildings was being determined, she said. The residents evacuated from the four-story apartment building were allowed to go back to their units.

No injuries were reported.

Arson investigators were summoned, as required with a fire of this size, Stewart said.
