It took more than 40 firefighters 25 minutes to put out heavy fire in a single-story commercial building in Historic South-Central Los Angeles Monday morning.
The fire was reported at 3:24 a.m. at 838 E. 29th St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
Flames were so heavy when firefighters arrived at the 1,500-square-foot building that they assumed defensive positions outside, Stewart said.
They had the flames out at 3:49 a.m., having protected surrounding buildings without any injuries, she said.
Firefighters expected to remain on the scene through the morning to make sure all hot spots were out.
