Three men were in custody Wednesday in connection with a 2019 shooting in Riverside that left one man paralyzed.
After working the three-year-old case and developing several leads, the Riverside Police Department’s Homicide Cold Case Unit identified three suspects: Dereck Anthony Wood of Riverside, 26; Raymond Floyd Cervin of Riverside, 26 and Donte Justice Reese of Las Vegas, 26, according to Officer Ryan Railsback,
The arrests were in connection with a shooting at a house in the 6400 block of Nidever Avenue, near Dewey and Streeter avenues, on March 3, 2019, at 12:11 a.m., Railsback said. Izaac Colunga was struck by gunfire and critically injured, suffering permanent paralysis from the neck down, Railsback said.
A second victim was also hit, treated for a minor injury and released from a hospital.
There were several other people in the house who were not injured.
The charges against Wood, Cervin and Reese include shooting at an inhabited dwelling and two counts of attempted murder, Railsback said.
A fourth suspect was identified as 23-year-old Lawrence House of Riverside, but he died of natural causes in 2021, police said.
Homicide Cold Case Unit detectives were assisted by the department’s Gang Intelligence Unit, Problem-Oriented Policing Team, Post-Release Accountability & Compliance Team, Forensic Science and Crime Analysis Units, and the FBI’s Criminal Apprehension Team.
