A woman was struck and killed and a man was hospitalized Wednesday after both were hit by two vehicles while attempting to cross a street in the Arlingtion Heights neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded at 10 p.m. Tuesday to the 1500 block of South Arlington Avenue between Pico and Venice boulevards where they learned a sedan traveling south on Arlington struck the female pedestrian and then the male pedestrian, an LAPD spokeswoman told City News Service.

The impact of the collision caused the woman to fall into the path of the second vehicle, which was traveling in the same direction as the sedan and also struck the woman, the LAPD spokeswoman said.

Both pedestrians were walking outside of the crosswalk when they were struck by the vehicles.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. The man was treated a the scene for his injuries by paramedics, police said.

There were no description of the second vehicle.
