A 24-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured when they were struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while attempting to cross a street in the Arlington Heights area, authorities said Wednesday.

Officers were sent to the 1500 block of South Arlington Avenue at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pair had been walking east across Arlington Avenue north of Venice Boulevard when they were struck.

“When they reached the middle of the street, the suspect vehicle drove southbound on Arlington Avenue and struck both pedestrians,” police said in a statement. “The suspect vehicle continued traveling southbound on Arlington Avenue towards Washington Boulevard without stopping.

“Upon impact, one pedestrian landed near the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Arlington Avenue, at which time a second vehicle traveling northbound on Arlington Avenue struck the pedestrian,” police added. “The second vehicle stopped and remained at scene until the police arrived, as required by law.”

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, the woman, Taylor Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics, police said.

No description was available of the hit-and-run vehicle.

It was the second fatal hit-and-run to occur in the Arlington Heights area that day.

At about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, a 66-year-old woman was fatally struck at the intersection of Venice Boulevard and 12th Avenue.

Police said Bibiana Retana-Sosa was crossing the street northbound on Venice in a marked crosswalk when a white Mazda with California license plate 8XHG132 struck her and continued traveling east on Venice.

A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve a fatal hit-and-run.
