A fire at a large homeless encampment in Northridge Wednesday spread to a quarter-acre of grass and trees and threatened a commercial building before being extinguished in 25 minutes by 34 firefighters.

Firefighters responded to the 19300 block of Nordhoff Street, near Tampa Avenue, around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday and deployed hose lines, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange,

It was unclear what sparked the fire. The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
