The investigation continued Saturday into a hit-and-run in the South Los Angeles area that killed a female pedestrian.

Paramedics responded to Vernon and Western avenues about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and took the 42-year-old woman to a hospital, where she later died, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The woman’s name was withheld, pending notification of her family.

The alleged hit-and-run motorist left the scene, but later returned and was interviewed by police, LAPD Detective Gerald Chavarria told City News Service.

The female driver was not arrested, but the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration, Chavarria said. Her name will not be released until she is arrested and booked for the fatal crash.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact Chavarria at 213-924-3621 or via email at 37560@lapd.online. Tipsters may also call the LAPD’s tipline at 877-LAPD-247 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
