The Riverside Police Department announced Wednesday it is seeking additional potential victims of a husband and wife suspected of sexually and physically abusing a boy and girl 10 years ago.

Jose Cruz Martinez, 47, was arrested on Jan. 5 and later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of multiple sexual and physical abuse violations involving a minor under the age of 10, according to Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan J. Railsback.

Martinez’s wife, 48-year-old Dawn Renee Johnson, was arrested Jan. 10 and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of multiple counts of aiding and abetting the sexual abuse of a minor and physical abuse, Railsback said.

Both Martinez and Johnson were being held on $2 million bail.

Martinez is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 23 and Johnson Jan. 26, according to court records.

Because Martinez had worked as a youth volunteer at a Riverside church between 2016 and September 2023 detectives believe there may be other victims who have not come forward, Railsback said.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation was urged to contact Detective C.J. Wilcox at 951-353-7133 or CWilcox@RiversideCA.gov.
