A 61-year-old man who was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing an Azusa street was identified Monday.

John Sigala of Avondale, Arizona, was struck around 10 p.m. Friday at Irwindale Avenue and Roosevelt Street,” according to police and the county Department of Medical Examiner.

Azusa police Lt. Jake Bushey told City News Service the man was crossing Irwindale Avenue when he was struck, and the motorist who hit him fled the scene.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

The vehicle that struck him was described as a compact car that “sustained major front end damage and possibly a broken windshield,” Bushey said.
