A 20-year-old man who stabbed a woman during a holdup in Moreno Valley pleaded guilty Monday to robbery and was immediately sentenced to four years in state prison.

Deondre Outley Jones of Moreno Valley admitted the felony count and a sentence-enhancing allegation of using a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime under a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. In exchange for his admissions, prosecutors dropped charges of assault and making criminal threats against Jones.

During a hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice Monday, Superior Court Judge Gary Polk certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.

According to the sheriff’s department, shortly after 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Jones confronted the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, inside a business in the 24900 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, near Perris Boulevard.

He pulled a knife and threatened the woman, stabbing her once before snatching her purse and jewelry, after which he fled the scene, investigators said.

“The victim sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital,” according to a sheriff’s statement.

The woman has since recovered.

Patrol deputies canvassed the area and spotted a man matching the description of the assailant loitering in a nearby park, authorities said. The individual, Jones, was detained and found “in possession of the victim’s property and was positively identified,” the sheriff’s department stated.

He was arrested without incident.

The defendant had no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
