A 34-year-old woman was taken into custody in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon in South Los Angeles Friday.

Officers responded to the 800 block of East Vernon Avenue, between Avalon Boulevard and Central Avenue, Friday around 7:20 a.m. regarding a vandalism suspect who damaged a victim’s vehicle with a pogo stick at her ex-boyfriend’s former workplace, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Lucerita Valenzuela, was believed to be looking for her ex-boyfriend moments before vandalizing the vehicle, police said. She fled the scene before the arrival of officers but returned to the business approximately four hours later, where police responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Valenzuela allegedly approached another victim at the business with an axe and held it over his head as he was working, police said.

He managed to escape to avoid being struck. Officers responded to the location a second time and arrested Valenzuela on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism and assault was urged to contact the Newton Community Police Station detectives at 323-846-5363. Calls during non-business hours or weekends should be directed to 877-527-3247. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
