The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department issued storm-related guidance Sunday for residents of the Antelope Valley, where a High Wind Warning and a Flood Watch were both currently in effect.
The wind warning will be in place until 6:30 p.m. Monday, and the flood watch through Tuesday. Residents were encouraged to stay home while they are in effect.
“Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order,” a sheriff’s department statement said.
Maintenance staff is on call to handle emergencies in public right of ways, parks, catch basins and green spaces. Issues can be reported 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 661-267-5338 or online at www.cityofpalmdaleca.gov/report.
Sandbags are available at local fire stations, limit 10 per resident. Availability can be determined at pw.lacounty.gov/dsg/sandbags/. Sand to fill the bags is available in the empty lot on the south side of Desert Sands Park, at 39117 Third St. East. Residents must bring their own shovel.
Victory Outreach, located at 37419 25th St. East in Palmdale, is open for those seeking shelter through Tuesday at 8 am. Pickups are available by calling 661-733-3823. The Red Cross Shelter is open at the Marie Kerr Park Recreation Center, 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd.
Roads may close due to flooding, the department warned. “Do not drive around barricades or road closed signs. “Turn around, don’t drown!”
Do not play in or around flooded areas. There are many hazards under the water not visible.
