A man and his mother were mauled Tuesday by the four pit bulls they were dog sitting at a house in an unincorporated area bordering Azusa.
A man at a home in the 5000 block of Orangecrest Avenue, near Gladstone Street, was attacked in the backyard just before noon, Alan Armagnac, a brother and son of the victims told Fox11.
The victims’ family dog also turned on the man, Armagnac told Fox11.
“I was scared. I got scared,” neighbor Biridiana Gutierrez told Fox11.
Gutierrez described the scene as intense, with a deputy poised with a beanbag rifle and animal care officers with poles with lasso-like hooks. One officer used a shovel to push back the dogs, Gutierrez told Fox11.
“You could tell his body looked a little lifeless, like he couldn’t move,” Gutierrez told Fox11. “And after, you could see his mom coming out with her knees covered in blood, her legs with bite marks.”
Animal control officers eventually got control of the dogs and put them in their vehicles to be taken to a Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control facility, according to Fox11.
The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive, Fox11 reported. His mother was treated for less serious injuries.
