The son of a 67-year-old man killed after being accidentally struck by a motorcycle allegedly driven by an on-duty Azusa police motorcycle officer has settled his wrongful death lawsuit against the city.

Plaintiff Kevin Li’s father, Xueqi Li of Covina, died of blunt-force trauma, according to the county coroner’s office. An attorney for Kevin Li filed court papers Thursday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Anne Hwang informing her of the resolution of the case.

No terms were divulged.

In their court papers, attorneys for the city denied any liability on the city’s part and said the plaintiff’s case should be dismissed.

The collision occurred at about 9 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2022, in the unincorporated community of Charter Oak. Xueqi Li was crossing a street when Officer Keith Geoffrey Ascar, headed east on Cienega Avenue at Asherton Avenue, mistakenly hit him with his motorcycle, according to the suit.

Xueqi Li was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His son has lost his father’s love, support and companionship, the suit stated.
