Firefighters rescued a woman who drove off the road down an embankment on San Joaquin Hills Road in Newport Beach Tuesday.
Newport Beach police were dispatched at 9:17 a.m. to the accident near Spyglass Avenue, according to city spokesman John Pope. The car had gone 150 to 175 feet down the embankment, Pope said.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters lent a helicopter to help rescue the woman from the car, Pope said. The woman was airlifted out of the ravine and taken to an area hospital, according to Pope.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
