A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department dog that was shot by a suspect in Compton is recovering and “resting comfortably” Thursday after being wounded in a SWAT canine operation.
KTLA reported that deputies responded to the 100 block of East Spruce Street, near Willowbrook Avenue, searching for an unidentified suspect for unspecified reasons.
The suspect emerged from hiding, then shot at the dog, that was wearing a bullet-proof vest, and was assisting deputies in their search for the suspect.
“K-9 Kjeld is resting comfortably this morning after being shot last night during an #LASD SEB SWAT canine operation,” the sheriff’s department posted on social media.
The dog in named K-9 Kjeld and is often called Kid by his police partners, according to KTLA.
The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it was listed in stable condition.
Deputies later arrested the suspect.
