Strong winds blew down four to five stories of scaffolding near Santa Monica Boulevard Sunday, causing authorities to clear the area.

The problem was reported at 2:05 p.m. at 1086 N. St. Andrews Place, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters said the scaffolding was resting on wires on the north side of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The busy thoroughfare was closed between Wilton Place and Western Avenue, and authorities were keeping pedestrians and motorists out of the area.

LAFD urban search and rescue specialists were on the scene assessing the situation.
