A fire that erupted Tuesday along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley scorched less than a quarter-acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:18 p.m. near Mann Avenue, just south of Limonite Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in a stand of bamboo trees, not threatening any structures.
Firefighters quickly encircled the blaze, containing it at 3:55 p.m.
There was no immediate word regarding what might have triggered the fire.
Homeless encampments are strewn throughout the river bottom, on both the Jurupa Valley and Riverside shores of the channel. Cooking, warming and debris fires are common in the area year-round.
