Felony and misdemeanor charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a man accused of colliding with barricades, businesses and a parked car in Palm Springs while allegedly driving under the influence.

Jose De La Cruz Uzaga Reyes was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center Friday on suspicion of four counts of vandalism, driving under the influence of drugs, and a hit-and-run causing property damage.

Officers responded to reports of a maroon SUV crashing into barricades near the Marilyn Monroe statue near the 100 block of Museum Way at around 10:15 p.m. Friday, according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Police said the vehicle continued along a walkway between businesses in the vicinity, colliding with the rear window of a business. The driver then attempted to turn the vehicle around, causing extensive damage to the interior of another business, according to police.

After driving onto Palm Canyon Drive, police said the suspect struck a parked car and left the scene.

Police said he was arrested shortly before 11 p.m. Reyes was being held on $10,000 bail.
