A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday on the tracks of a Metrolink train in Burbank.

Burbank police said officers arrived at the Buena Vista Street and Vanowen Street crossing of Metrolink’s Ventury County line following a report of a pedestrian being struck by a passenger train.

“The train, which was traveling south at the time, slowed to a stop following the collision. There were no reported injuries to passengers on the train,” police reported.

The victim was located, and pronounced dead at the scene.

A Metrolink official told KNX there were 39 passengers on the train.

Bus service was set up to take passengers to and from the Hollywood Burbank Airport to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

The victim’s identity was not being released, pending positive identification and family notification. The victim was likely a Latina woman, police said.

The Burbank police were diverting traffic away from the crash site and advising people to avoid the area.

Detectives, Metrolink officials, a Los Angeles County Coroner investigator and personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the incident, which remains under investigation.
