A motorcyclist was struck and killed Thursday in Jurupa Valley by a motorist who allegedly fled the scene but was later tracked down.

The deadly hit-and-run occurred about 3:40 a.m. in the area of Limonite and Pacific avenues, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Rafael Lopez said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was on Limonite when his motorcycle was impacted by a vehicle that didn’t stop.

The rider was flung into the roadway. No other details about the collision were provided.

Lopez said patrol deputies and paramedics arrived within minutes and found the man gravely injured. He was taken to a regional trauma center, where he died a short time later.

“The ensuing investigation led to the identification of the other vehicle, and it was later located at a residence in Jurupa Valley,” the sergeant said. “The driver … was identified, and the vehicle was impounded.”

It was unclear whether the motorist’s detention culminated in his arrest. The suspect’s name was not disclosed.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station at 951-955-2600.
