A brush fire that erupted Wednesday on a hillside northeast of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley scorched roughly 20 acres on ranch property before Cal Fire aircraft slowed its progress, enabling crews to begin digging containment lines.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 10:15 a.m. in the area of Lotus and Canal streets, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine and hand crews from the county, Riverside and Corona fire departments were sent to the location, encountering flames moving at a moderate rate through medium brush.
Four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters initiated runs on the brusher that slowed its advance, providing firefighters time to establish tentative containment lines and block the blaze’s eastern flank.
The brusher was burning upslope, away from residences, and no evacuation orders or warnings were in place as of 12:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
