A brush fire that erupted Monday north of Moreno Valley burned roughly five acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:32 p.m. in the area of Reche Canyon and Stewart roads, near the boundary separating Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Officials said that multiple engine and hand crews from the county and other agencies were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate through open space.
Firefighters relied on dirt pathways to reach the brusher, which was concentrated in rugged terrain. Drops by Cal Fire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters slowed the fire’s advance.
Its forward rate of spread was halted about 1:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
No evacuation orders or warnings were required.
Hot, dry conditions were prevalent, with the high in the Riverside metropolitan area predicted to reach 96 degrees Monday afternoon.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
