A 40-year-old woman walking in a crosswalk in Baldwin Hills was struck and killed early Tuesday by a vehicle whose driver drove away.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 1:55 a.m. to the intersection of Obama and La Cienega boulevards where they learned a dark colored vehicle heading north on La Cienega Boulevard had struck the woman, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were contacted and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

She was later identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Yvonne Parks.

Fox 11 reported the victim was walking in the crosswalk with her boyfriend, who was not injured, when she was struck by the speeding vehicle.

The driver drove from the scene without stopping and police searched the scene for any possible debris that the vehicle might have left behind.
