A 23-year-old man found dead at the base of a seaside cliff near Royal Palms Park in San Pedro was identified Friday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Firefighters responded to the 2300 block of West Paseo Del Mar at 12:57 p.m. Thursday to assist county lifeguards in recovering the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The man was later identified by the medical examiner as Edwin Jason Salgado of Gardena.
It was unclear how he wound up at the bottom of the cliff, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division was conducting an investigation.
The cause of his death remains under investigation.
