A mother was expected to be released from a hospital Sunday after she and her 3-year-old daughter were found locked in a car in sweltering heat in Anaheim, which the toddler did not survive.
The Anaheim Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Fashion Lane, near the Riverside (91) and Orange (57) freeways, around 4:20 p.m. Friday after a report of a medical emergency.
Family members told NBC4 that the mother had locked herself and the girl in the car and it was two hours before they were found. According to the station, a family member smashed out a window to try to rescue the girl, with the temperature at the time hovering around 104 degrees.
The woman, who is in her 40s, and her daughter were taken to a hospital, where the child died.
Family members told the news station that they made the discovery when attempting to pick up an older child from school.
Police said they were waiting for the mother, whose name was not disclosed, to recover so they could question her. It was not clear whether she would face criminal charges.
