Sheriff’s detectives Tuesday are investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian in Lancaster.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department’s Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded around 10:30 p.m. Monday regarding a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Third Street East and Avenue I. When they arrived, deputies found a pedestrian with severe injuries west of the intersection, said sheriff’s Detective Nestor Garcia.
Witnesses told deputies a red four-door sedan struck the pedestrian and drove away, deputies said.
During their preliminary investigation, detectives learned the driver of the four-door sedan was traveling west on Avenue I while the pedestrian was walking north in the marked crosswalk. It was not immediately known if the driver or the victim had the right of away or if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash, Garcia said.
The name, age and gender of the victim was not immediately known.
Anyone with information regarding this collision was asked to call the traffic investigators at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station by calling 661-948-8466.
