A man who allegedly stole a sedan in Costa Mesa was arrested in South Pasadena by San Marino police officers and later released on his own recognizance, authorities said Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Bell Gardens resident Salvador Lopez, had a “mandatory supervision record” for narcotics until 2025 from an outside jurisdiction, the San Marino Police Department reported.
Officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle by an automated license plate reader camera alert and spotted a silver Hyundai Genesis sedan traveling through San Marino into South Pasadena at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
“Officers initiated a high-risk traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle in South Pasadena and took Suspect Salvador Lopez into custody without incident,” police said.
Lopez, who claimed to have medical problems, requested paramedics before being transported to a jail facility for booking and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect was issued a citation and released with an order to appear in court at a later date.
The sedan was eventually released to the victim.
