A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism for allegedly spray-painting “Free Palestine” on the exterior of LAPD Headquarters during a march and vandalizing several additional locations along the route, authorities said Sunday.
The spray-painting occurred at about 4:10 p.m. Saturday at 100 W. First St., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Los Angeles resident Alex Guillen was apprehended at about 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of Hill and Fifth streets, the LAPD said.
“At the time of the arrest, Guillen was in possession of two black spray paint cans and distinctive clothing worn during the vandalisms,” according to the police statement.
The march was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement ahead of Monday’s one-year anniversary of Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack against Israel, and marked what the group called “one year of popular resistance to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”
