An armed man was arrested after being spotted in an area behind businesses in Menifee, authorities said.
Officers responded to an area behind businesses at 26875 Newport Road around 12:15 a.m. Friday after a report of an armed man in crisis, the Menifee Police Department said.
Upon arrival, officers allegedly found the man armed with a handgun and posing a threat only to himself. They established a safety perimeter and initiated communication with the man with support from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
A sheriff’s department helicopter also responded and provided aerial support, remaining on scene until about 2:15 a.m.
The Menifee PD crisis negotiation team also responded and the man was safely detained after several hours of negotiating with authorities.
The man, who was not identified, was taken for a medical evaluation, and criminal charges were pending, according to police.
