Firefighters Monday were able to contain a blaze in the garage of a Mission Viejo home and save pets because a neighbor noticed smoke.

The fire was reported at 7:14 p.m. Sunday on Plant Avenue by a person out for a walk, the Orange County Fire Authority said.

Firefighters arrived six minutes later and put out the fire before it could spread to the house, fire officials said.

A dog and cat were found safe inside the house, protected by the closed door between the garage and house, officials said.

No injuries were reported.
