A 18-year-old suspect in a shooting at a Ralphs supermarket in Sun Valley where one man was killed and another was wounded was in custody Wednesday, police said.

Officers were sent to the 8300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a shooting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

An initial report from police indicated that three men followed two other men into the store and attacked them with pipe wrenches, when one of the men who was under attack drew a gun and opened fire on the three assailants.

“Officers reviewed security footage and observed a physical altercation had occurred between two groups, resulting in one individual shooting at the other group,” a later LAPD statement said. “Two individuals were struck by gunfire. The first individual was transported by an unknown person to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. He is described as a 19-year-old male.”

The victim was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Angelo Cedillo, 19, of Granada Hills.

“The second individual was transported to a local hospital in stable condition,” the LAPD statement said. “He is described as an 18-year-old male.”

Authorities later located and arrested Jorge Armenta, 18, who was booked on suspicion of murder, police said. He was being held on $2 million bail.

The circumstances of the shooting remained under investigation, and anyone with information on the case was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
