Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was fatally shot near the Carmelitos neighborhood in Long Beach, while detectives sought the public’s help to solve the crime.

Long Beach Police Department officers were called to the 900 block of Via Carmelitos, west of the Carmelitos Community Garden, at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday regarding a shots-fired call.

Officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds and attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene, the department said.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the man as Dwayne Walton, 32, of Los Angeles.

No arrests were reported, and no suspect information was available. A motive for the crime was not known, police said.
