A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision in Santa Monica, authorities said Monday.

Officers responded at around 6:40 p.m. Sunday to multiple calls of a woman who was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Chelsea Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard near Douglas Park, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Responding personnel found the victim at the scene, where she died shortly afterward, police said.

Police officials said the hit-and-run vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Wilshire Boulevard at a high rate of speed. An area check was conducted by authorities, but to no avail.

The name of the victim and a description of the vehicle was not immediately available.
