A man was arrested on suspicion of several weapons-related violations in the Hemet area, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputies responded to a report of “suspicious circumstances” in the 25000 block of Cornell Street, in the unincorporated area of East Hemet, at 10:35 a.m. Monday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department

They reported seeing a man identified as Isaiah Robinson leave behind a duffel back and fleeing on foot, according to the sheriff’s statement, which claimed he “hid in several backyards” of homes on Orange Place and Dixon Drive.

The bag allegedly contained an assault weapon and loaded high-capacity magazine.

Robinson was located with the assistance of a helicopter, arrested without incident and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of “several weapon-related charges,” in addition to theft, burglary and resisting or delaying a peace officer, according to the department.

Inmate records indicate that Robinson was being held at the Southwest Detention Center. The sheriff’s department described Robinson as a felon, but did not mention any specific convictions or prior criminal history.

Anyone with information about the case was encouraged to call Deputy Miner at the Hemet sheriff’s station at 951-791-3400.
