A 25-year-old man was injured Friday after crashing alongside Highway 243 south of Banning.

The accident happened about 8:25 a.m. on the southbound side of the two-lane mountain corridor, near Wonderland Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Jonathan Torres told City News Service the motorist, identified only as a Glendale man, was traveling at an unconfirmed speed when he apparently lost control and veered off of the roadway, plowing into vegetation.

Witnesses stopped and called 911.

The victim was able to extricate himself from the wreckage minutes later, reportedly with a minor arm injury.

He was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.

Torres said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash.
