A man was shot while intervening in an armed robbery in Long Beach, authorities said Tuesday.
Officers were dispatched at about 11:35 p.m. Monday to the 1100 block of Redondo Avenue, south of Anaheim Street, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“Preliminary investigation suggests the victim witnessed an armed robbery and intervened to assist the victim when the suspect discharged a firearm striking the victim,” according to a police statement.
The shooting victim was rushed to a hospital for a wound to the lower body that was described as non-life-threatening, while the suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Gang detectives responded to the scene and the investigation was ongoing.
