Firefighters attacked a second-alarm fire at a shuttered commercial building in Pomona Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 5:24 a.m. in the 400 block of Garey Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Fred Fielding told City News Service.

They arrived at the single-story building at 5:28 a.m. and called for a second-alarm at 5:36 a.m. Fielding said.

The firefighters took up defensive positions around the building to drown the fire from outside while protecting nearby structures, he said.

Fox 11 video at about 6:35 a.m. showed white smoke shrouding the building but no flames.

The fight wasn’t quite over, Fielding said.
