Police sought the public’s help Thursday in locating a hit-and-run driver who killed a 40-year-old man in South Los Angeles.
The pedestrian was struck around 7:20 p.m. Jan. 7 at 53rd and Figueroa streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to police, Jose Martinez was walking in a crosswalk heading east on 53rd Street when he was struck by a silver Porshe Cayenne being driven northbound on Figueroa. The motorist drove off without stopping.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency service, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” police said in a statement.
The city is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect.
