Homicide detectives were investigating the possibly gang-related murder of a 38-year-old man in Long Beach, authorities said Wednesday.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Locust Avenue at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Long Beach Police Department. They located evidence that a shooting had occurred, and were alerted that the victim had been taken to a hospital by a private party.

The victim, identified as Durell Shell of Long Beach, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.

Detectives believe the incident was gang-related and the motive was currently under investigation.
