Crenshaw High School was temporarily locked down so that police could deal with a verbal and physical dispute Thursday on campus, which spilled out to across the street, leaving a man stabbed and two suspects in custody.

The condition of the stabbing victim was not immediately known, said Los Angeles School Police Department Senior Police Officer Allen Sanchez, who added that the victim, an adult caregiver outside of the school, transported himself to a hospital.

Sanchez did not have an approximate time of when the dispute began, nor a description of the arrestees.

“This morning, individuals came on to campus and were involved in a physical altercation with one of our students before school,” said Crenshaw High Principal Terrence Mudd, in a news statement. `The altercation escalated and unfortunately resulted in stabbing of an adult caregiver outside of the school.”

“The school immediately contacted the Los Angeles Unified School Police who responded to the school to support,” Mudd said.

The Los Angeles School Police Department requested LAPD perimeter support in the 5100 block of 11th Avenue around 9 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

“School police has apprehended the suspects that were involved in the incident,” Mudd said. “Parents of involved students have been notified. We are investigating this incident further in accordance with Los Angeles Unified policy and with the assistance of the Los Angeles School Police Department.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, I have requested that school police be on campus the rest of the day and thru mid-week next week,” he said.

The lockdown began at approximately 9:15 a.m. and ended at 11:36 a.m., Sanchez said.
