A suspect engaged in a standoff with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies for over nine hours was taken into custody Thursday evening in Lakewood.

Deputies from the department’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau were called to the 17000 block of Bellflower Boulevard, near the Artesia (91) Freeway, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, regarding a barricaded suspect, according to the sheriff’s department.

The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident around 10:48 p.m. The area was deemed safe, and all neighborhood evacuees were allowed to return to their homes, the sheriff’s department said.

The suspect’s name was not released.
